Larabar Cashew Cookie

Larabar Cashew Cookie

Larabar Cashew Cookie

I went for this bar just prior to a six mile run.  Don’t get me wrong, I like Larabars – just not this one so much.  They are small and sort of spendy however you know what you are getting with just two ingredients.

This bar certainly tastes like cashews, but I didn’t care for the texture.  Lots of nuts – of course.  Still good, but not what I was expecting.  Probably more fiber than I need for such an early morning run.  I paid $1.69 at Meijer in August 2009.

I decided on this bar after a long bike ride.  When I opened it up, it was a covered in a peanut butter coating.  These bars are small.  Initially, tasted pretty good.  Soft marshmallow was a nice change of pace.  The problem was the aftertaste.  Strange almost metallic taste.  Not good.  I paid $1.35 at Meijer in August 2009.  Not one of my better choices.

Pure Protein Strawberry Shortcake

Pure Protein Strawberry Shortcake

Pure Protein Strawberry Shortcake

I know I’ve reviewed other Pure Protein bars and they have not been my best choices.  I decided to give this bar a chance given that it had strawberries and I thought it would be nice change of pace.  Good call.

Again, they bars strike me as being small when opened up.  The bar is coated and the strawberry layer was tasty.  I can’t say it tasted much like strawberry shortcake.  I was just glad it didn’t have the aftertaste all of my other Pure Protein bars had.  I paid $1.35 at Meijer in August 2009.  If you are going to pick this brand, go for this bar.

Met-Rx Big 100 Peanut Butter Cookie Dough

I decided on this bar as a change of pace from a different manufacturer.  This bar is huge!  I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to eat the whole thing.

When opened it looks like a king size candy bar.  I didn’t know what to expect from MET-Rx taste wise, but it was pretty good.  Definite peanut taste and certainly chewy.  You are going to need some water to help wash this thing down.  Lots of protein which is what I was after.  I paid $1.98 at Meijer in July 2009.  A bit expensive, but a pretty good choice overall.

Clif Builder's Cocoa Dipped Double Decker Crisp Bar

I chowed this bar down after a long bike ride.  As usual, Clif bars fail to disappoint.  When I opened it, it looks very much like a chocolate covered candy bar.  Some crunch with some chew also.  Yummy chocolate and with 20g of protein I was after.  I paid $1.49 at Meijer in July 2009.  Another fine choice.  33% organic.
